NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

Michael Elliott and Associates offers comprehensive and responsive diagnostic neuropsychological and psychological assessment evaluations. This assessment forms the basis for understanding brain/behavior functioning and helps establish the effect of traumatic brain injury.  

 

We strive to only make a recommendation or consider requests for neuropsychological and psychological assessments after thoroughly reviewing records, prior testing, medical findings, and client input. 

Neuropsychological Testing: Scope and Areas Assessed
 

Neuropsychological testing is a specialized form of assessment that evaluates a broad range of cognitive, behavioral, and functional abilities. By utilizing evidence-based methodologies and standardized tools, we assess the following areas:
 

  • Intellectual Abilities:
    Comprehensive evaluation of general intelligence and intellectual functioning, including strengths and deficits.

  • Learning Disabilities:
    Identification of learning impairments, memory challenges, and difficulties in information retention or academic functioning.

  • Cognitive Abilities:
    Measurement of higher-order cognitive skills such as memory, reasoning, attention, and processing speed.

  • Sensory-Perceptual Functioning:
    Examination of sensory input processing and integration, including auditory, visual, and tactile perception.

  • Motor Function:
    Assessment of fine and gross motor coordination, strength, dexterity, and movement precision.

  • Executive Functions and Problem Solving:
    Evaluation of key skills such as planning, decision-making, organizing, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Behavioral Concerns:
    Analysis of emotional regulation, mood disorders, personality changes, and behavior disturbances caused by trauma or injury.

  • Language Abilities:
    Testing expressive and receptive language skills, verbal fluency, word retrieval, and comprehension.

  • Visual-Spatial Skills:
    Assessment of spatial awareness, visual perception, and ability to process visual stimuli.

  • Abstract Reasoning and Analysis:
    Measurement of logical reasoning, critical thinking, and abstract thought processes.

  • Information Processing:
    Analysis of how quickly and accurately an individual processes, understands, and responds to information.

Psychological Testing: Scope and Areas Assessed

Psychological testing evaluates emotional, personality, and behavioral functioning to provide a deeper understanding of an individual’s mental health and overall well-being. Our psychological assessments include the following areas:

  • Emotional and Mood Disorders:
    Identification of conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

  • Personality Assessment:
    Evaluation of personality traits, patterns, and disorders that may influence behavior and relationships.

  • Behavioral and Conduct Concerns:
    Analysis of behavioral challenges, impulse control, and conduct-related issues.

  • Stress and Coping Mechanisms:
    Assessment of an individual’s ability to manage stress and adapt to challenging circumstances.

  • Psychopathology Screening:
    Identification of psychological symptoms and conditions that may require further intervention or treatment.

  • Adaptive and Social Functioning:
    Measurement of interpersonal skills, adaptability, and functioning in daily life.

  • Trauma-Related Symptoms:
    Assessment of emotional and psychological symptoms resulting from trauma or significant life events.

Risk and Safety Assessment:

 

Evaluation of self-harm risk, suicidal ideation, and other safety-related concerns.

 

Note the following:

 

  • There may be occasions when the neuropsychological assessment may not present a diagnosis of a disabling condition.

  • The neuropsychological assessment will not determine a diagnosable condition if none is present.

  •  We are able to accommodate client needs by conducting these assessments via telehealth and we work hard to insure the most convenient process possible for all clients.

TESTING PROCESS

PHASE 1

A comprehensive Psycho-emotional battery and Pain Inventory that will take approximately 3 hours to complete. This will include an interview with the client that will collect a personal history.

 

  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - (MMPI-3)

  • Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory - (MCMI-IV)

  • Pain Patient Profile (P3)

PHASE 2

A standard Neuropsychological Battery will be administered which will consist of 6 basic tests ranging from 3-5 hours scheduled to meet client needs.

 

  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) 

  • Wechsler Memory Scale IV (WMS-IV)

  • Conners Auditory Test of Attention (CATA)

  • Conners Continuous Performance Test, Third Edition (CPT-3)

  • Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST)

  • Applied Clinical Solutions (ACP)

  • Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (Beery VMI)

  • Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition (BRIEF2)

 

If it has been determined that further testing is necessary, any or all of the following may be administered. The following supplemental tests can range from 15 minutes to about two hours depending on what tests are deemed necessary. These tests measure several aspects General Neurocognituve Functioning.  

 

  • Aphasia Screening Test

  • Trail-Making Test, parts A and B 

  • Incidental Memory factor 

  • Tactual Performance Test

  • Seashore Rhythm Test

  • Speech Sounds Perception Test

  • Finger Tapping Test

  • Sensory Perceptual Examination

  • Lateral Dominance Examination

PHASE 3

Post Testing Meeting with Dr. Elliott to discuss test results and recommendations.

PHASE 4

A report will be generated as promptly as possible.

PHASE 5

A member of Michael Elliott and Associates will be available to assist the client in accessing any of the recommendations in the report.

COMPREHENSIVE

REPORTS

Assessment tools are only as valuable as the recommended interventions that follow. Each client receives a comprehensive report that explains issues of concern, prognosis for treatment, and thorough list of well established interventions for successful recovery.
